Callum Ah Chee (born 9 October 1997) is a talented Australian rules footballer. He plays for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Early Life and Football Beginnings

Where Callum Grew Up

Callum Ah Chee was born in Derby, Western Australia. His family later moved to Armadale, a suburb near Perth, when he was three years old. Callum has a mixed background. His mother is from the Indigenous Australian Nyoongar people and also has Dutch heritage. His father is from the Indigenous Nyikina and Yawuru people, and also has Chinese heritage. Callum's older brother, Brendon Ah Chee, also played professional Australian rules football.

Starting Sports

When he was younger, Callum first played basketball. Later, he started playing Australian rules football. He joined the Kelmscott Junior Football Club and then played for South Fremantle. He began playing in the colts league in 2013. At just 17 years old, he made his senior debut in the WAFL for South Fremantle. Callum also represented Western Australia in the national Under 18 Championships in both 2014 and 2015.

AFL Career Highlights

Joining the AFL

Callum Ah Chee was a top pick in the 2015 AFL draft. The Gold Coast Football Club chose him as their first selection, and he was the eighth player picked overall. He played for Gold Coast until the end of the 2019 AFL season. After that, he moved to the Brisbane Lions in a trade.

Grand Final Success

In the 2023 AFL Grand Final, Callum played for Brisbane. He had a tough game and was substituted out early. However, he came back strong in the 2024 AFL season. He took on a key role as a forward player. Callum was a very important part of the Brisbane Lions team that won the 2024 AFL Grand Final. He kicked four goals in that big game. He also finished third in the voting for the Norm Smith Medal, which is given to the best player in the Grand Final.
