Calumet is a city in O'Brien County, Iowa, United States. The population was 146 at the 2020 census.
History
Calumet got its start circa 1887, following construction of the railroad through that territory, Erie was first Calumet back then.
Geography
Calumet is located at 42°56′46″N 95°33′7″W / 42.94611°N 95.55194°W (42.945988, -95.552078).

2020 census
As of the census of 2020, there were 146 people, 73 households, and 45 families residing in the city. The population density was 548.2 inhabitants per square mile (211.6/km2). There were 73 housing units at an average density of 274.1 per square mile (105.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.8% White, 2.1% Black or African American, 0.0% Native American, 0.0% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races and 3.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 2.1% of the population.
Of the 73 households, 30.1% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% were married couples living together, 6.8% were cohabitating couples, 24.7% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 30.1% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 38.4% of all households were non-families. 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals, 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 40.5 years. 28.8% of the residents were under the age of 20; 2.7% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 26.7% were from 25 and 44; 22.6% were from 45 and 64; and 19.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 55.5% male and 44.5% female.
2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 170 people, 75 households, and 50 families living in the city. The population density was 629.6 inhabitants per square mile (243.1/km2). There were 86 housing units at an average density of 318.5 per square mile (123.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.5% White and 3.5% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 75 households, of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 33.3% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.74.
The median age in the city was 41.5 years. 21.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23% were from 25 to 44; 31.1% were from 45 to 64; and 15.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 52.4% male and 47.6% female.
Education
Calumet is served by the South O'Brien Community School District. The district was formed on July 1, 1993 by the merger of three school districts: Paullina, Primghar, and Sutherland.
