The Andringitra Chameleon (Calumma andringitraense) is a special type of chameleon that lives only in Madagascar. It was once thought to be a smaller group of the Perinet chameleon.
Where It Lives
This chameleon lives in a very small area in southwestern Madagascar. Its home is only about 1,220 square kilometers (471 square miles) big.
You can find it in places like Andohahela National Park, Andringitra National Park, and Kalambatritra Reserve. Its living areas are spread out, possibly because it needs a very specific kind of home.
This chameleon mostly lives in forests that are still natural and humid. These forests are usually found at higher altitudes.
Why It Needs Help
The Andringitra Chameleon is listed as endangered. This means it is at a high risk of disappearing forever. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) decided this because its home is small and getting smaller.
Its population is decreasing, which means there are fewer and fewer of these chameleons left. Luckily, people don't usually try to illegally trade this chameleon. This might be because there are so few of them.
