Calvin Harrison is an American athlete who was born on January 20, 1974. He is known for his speed in sprint races. Calvin is the identical twin brother of Alvin Harrison, who is also an Olympic athlete.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Calvin and Alvin Harrison made history. They became the first twins ever to compete and win Olympic gold medals together. They were part of the United States team in the men's 4 × 400 metres relay race. Alvin ran the first part of the race, and Calvin ran the third part. However, in 2008, the team's medals from the 2000 Sydney Olympics were taken away. This happened because a teammate had broken rules about fair competition.
High School Achievements
When Calvin and Alvin were in high school at North Salinas High School in Salinas, California, Calvin was a standout athlete. He set a national high school record in the 400 meters race. This record was 45.25 seconds, which he achieved in 1993. He won the CIF California State Meet that year, beating Michael Granville. Granville later became a national record holder in the 800 meters. Calvin's 400-meter record stood for many years until 2012.
In 1993, Calvin also won the 200 meters race. He and Alvin teamed up to win the 4×400 meter relay. They also placed third in the 4×100 meter relay. Their efforts helped North Salinas High School tie for the team championship. This was the only time the school had been in contention for this title. Because of his amazing performance, Calvin was named "High School Athlete of the Year" by Track and Field News in 1993.
Life After High School
After graduating from high school, Calvin Harrison attended Hartnell College. He did not compete in track during his time there. Calvin also helped write a book called Go to Your Destiny. This book was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2001.
