Cambridge is a small city in Cowley County, Kansas, United States. It's a quiet place with a friendly community. In 2020, about 92 people lived there. Cambridge got its start because of the railroad, which helped it grow. The city is named after the famous Cambridge University in England.

History of Cambridge
Cambridge exists because of the railroad. In 1880, the Kansas City, Lawrence & Southern Railroad was built. A new town site was created about a mile south of an older settlement called Lazette.
How Cambridge Was Founded
Benjamin H. Clover helped plan the new town on May 3, 1880. He named it Cambridge after Cambridge University in England. The first post office opened in Cambridge on January 30, 1880. This meant people could send and receive mail.
Railroad Connections
Later in 1880, the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway bought most of the stock of the Kansas City, Lawrence & Southern Railroad. They operated it as the Southern Kansas Railroad. Cambridge became an important stop for shipping goods and passengers.
Cold War Alert System
During the Cold War, Cambridge was considered for a special radio tower. This tower would be part of a system called the Decision Information Distribution System. Its job was to alert people if there was an enemy attack. These "control stations" would send signals to other stations across the country. These stations would then play recorded messages to the public.

Cambridge is a small city located in Kansas. It covers a total area of about 0.17 square miles (0.45 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

Cambridge is found along US Route 160 and State Highway 7. It is about 45 miles southeast of Wichita, a much larger city.
