What the Hall Looks Like
The Camp Sherman Community Hall is in the small town of Camp Sherman, Oregon. Local volunteers built the hall, led by Wayne L. Korish. A famous builder named Luther Metke helped a lot. He was known for building log cabins and bridges by hand.
The hall has a simple, rustic look. It's built with strong wooden posts and beams, which are like a big wooden skeleton. The outside is covered with shingles. It has a strong concrete base and a roof made of metal and asphalt.
Inside, the main floor has a big meeting area. There's also a kitchen and bathrooms. You can see the big, hand-cut wooden beams inside, which makes the hall feel very rustic. The walls are covered with knotty pine wood panels. The floor is made of straight-grain fir wood. A large stone fireplace is on the north side of the main room. Upstairs, there's an attic for storage.
History of the Hall
The Camp Sherman Community Association started in 1948. They wanted to create a place for people in Camp Sherman to meet and have fun. The next year, in 1949, they built the community hall. Hays and Roblay McMullin, who owned Lake Creek Lodge, gave the land for the hall.
Local people raised money for the project. Community members also gave their time and effort to build the hall for free.
Since 1949, the Camp Sherman Community Hall has been the main gathering spot. It hosts many events throughout the year. For example, they have pancake breakfasts on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. The hall is also used for the community's Christmas bazaar and winter potluck dinners. Community meetings and popular quilt fairs are held here twice a year.
People also enjoy dances, bingo nights, and other social events. You can even rent the building for private parties like weddings and family reunions. When it's election time, the hall is where candidates meet with voters.
In 1983, volunteers updated the hall. They made the kitchen and storage areas bigger. They also added indoor plumbing. In the 1990s, more improvements were made. The roof was replaced, a new heating system was put in, and a new stage was built. Outside, a grassy area with picnic tables was added.
The hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in February 2003. This happened because of its unique rustic style and its importance to the community's history. Being on this list helps the Camp Sherman Community Association get money for repairs. In return, the hall must be open for public tours at least once a year.
In 2004, volunteers from Camp Sherman did a big renovation. They dug under the building to fix floor beams. They also put in a new heating system. The main hall's floor was restored and shined up. The fireplace and chimney were repaired, and new front doors were installed. Local donations and a grant from the National Register of Historic Places helped pay for this project.

The association's main goal is to bring people together in the Camp Sherman community. They want to run and maintain the hall for this purpose. They also work to improve the community and do things that help everyone.
Since it was built, the Camp Sherman Community Hall has been a very important part of the community. It helps the Camp Sherman Community Association meet its goals of bringing people together.
