A Glimpse into Campbellsport's History
How Campbellsport Got Its Name
Imagine a time when letters were delivered by horse and buggy! Campbellsport had its own post office. It was open for many years, from 1841 until 1903. The community was named after an important early settler, General Campbell. The "port" part of the name came from its location. It was a stopping point, or "port," along the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal. Canals were like ancient highways for boats. They helped transport goods and people across the land.
