Canim Falls and lava flows.

Canim Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Wells Gray Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. It's about 23 meters (75 feet) tall! You can find it on the Canim River, flowing between Canim Lake and Mahood Lake. This area is part of the Cariboo region in central British Columbia.

Over a long time, the waterfall has slowly moved upstream. As it moved, it carved out a long canyon, about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) in length. This canyon is cut into a flat area made of old lava, which is part of the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field. This means the area was once very active with volcanoes!

Exploring Canim Falls

A walking path leads to Canim Falls from Mahood Lake Road. This trail also takes you to another nearby waterfall called Mahood Falls. It's a great way to see both natural wonders.

What Does "Canim" Mean?

The name "Canim" comes from the Chinook Jargon. In this language, "Canim" means a type of large canoe. This name likely reflects the history of the area and how people traveled on the rivers and lakes long ago.
