Quick facts for kids Canim River |
---|
The Canim River is a short but interesting river in the Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It starts from Canim Lake and flows for about 1.8 kilometers to a beautiful spot called Canim Falls. After the falls, the river continues for about 9 kilometers through a deep canyon. This canyon was carved into a lava plateau, which is an area made from ancient lava flows. The river then reaches Mahood Lake.
What Does "Canim" Mean?
The name "Canim" comes from the Chinook Jargon, which was a trade language used by Indigenous peoples and early settlers in the Pacific Northwest. In this language, "Canim" means a type of large canoe. The river was officially given this name in 1941. Before that, both the Canim River and the Mahood River (which is further downstream) were considered part of Bridge Creek.
