Canim Lake is a beautiful lake in British Columbia, Canada. It's located about 36 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of a town called 100 Mile House. The name "Canim" comes from the Chinook Jargon language. It means a type of large canoe.

This lake is quite long, stretching about 26.5 kilometers (16.5 miles). It's an important part of the traditional land of the Shuswap First Nation. People have lived around Canim Lake for a very long time. Archaeologists found signs of an ancient civilization there. These findings are about 4,300 years old.

Summer Adventures

Hiking and mountain biking are also popular in the nearby wilderness.

Canim Falls

Fishing in Canim Lake

Canim Lake is home to many different kinds of fish. You can find Rainbow Trout and Lake Trout. There are also Kokanee and Burbot.

For many years, the Government of British Columbia added fish to Canim Lake. This was done between 1938 and 1998. They stocked the lake with Kokanee and Rainbow Trout from hatcheries. But since 1998, all the fish species in Canim Lake have been able to reproduce on their own. This means they don't need help from hatcheries anymore.

Canim Lake Settlement

The settlement of Canim Lake is located west of the lake. This community belongs to the Canim Lake Band.
