Cao Wenxuan (simplified Chinese: 曹文轩; traditional Chinese: 曹文軒; pinyin: Cáo Wénxuān) is a famous Chinese writer. He was born in January 1954. He is best known for writing amazing books for children.
Cao Wenxuan is a professor at Peking University. He also helps lead the Beijing Writers Association. His stories are so good that they have been translated into many languages. These include English, French, German, Japanese, and Korean.

About Cao Wenxuan
Cao Wenxuan was born in 1954 in a place called Yancheng in Jiangsu, China. He started studying at Peking University in 1974. He began publishing his first stories in 1983.
Winning the Hans Christian Andersen Award
In April 2016, Cao Wenxuan won a very special prize. It was the Hans Christian Andersen Award for children's writing. This was a huge deal because he was the first Chinese author to ever win it!
The judges who gave him the award said he writes beautifully. They noted how he tells stories about kids facing big challenges. They also said his own tough childhood helped him write these deep stories. He received his award in Auckland, New Zealand, on August 20, 2016. His acceptance speech was called "Literature: Another Form of Housebuilding."
One of his book series is Dingding and Dangdang (2012). It tells the story of two brothers with Down syndrome living in a small Chinese village. This series was chosen as one of the best books for young people with disabilities in 2015.
