Capelle aan den IJssel is a town and a municipality in the western Netherlands. It is located in the province of South Holland. The name means "Capelle on the IJssel" river.
This town is home to about 66,261 people. It covers an area of 15.40 km2 (5.95 sq mi). A part of this area, 1.15 km2 (0.44 sq mi), is water. Capelle aan den IJssel is right next to Rotterdam, on the Hollandse IJssel river.
One interesting spot in Capelle is the Dief- en Duifhuisje. This small building is probably the country's tiniest museum. It used to be a prison for the old Capelle castle. Today, it's the only part of the 17th-century castle that still stands.
You can also find two business parks here: Rivium and Brainpark. They are on opposite sides of the A16 motorway. Many companies have offices in Rivium, like Rockwell Automation and Royal Dutch Shell.

Metro and Train Travel
The town is part of the Rotterdam Metro system.
- Rotterdam Metro Line C starts at De Terp station. It then goes through Capelle Centrum station and Slotlaan station. From there, you can travel to Rotterdam, Schiedam, and Spijkenisse.
- You can connect to the main railway system from the metro. Change at Blaak station or Schiedam Centrum station.
- Capelle aan den IJssel also has its own train station, Capelle Schollevaar. This station is in the Schollevaar neighborhood, outside the town center. Local trains going from Rotterdam to Gouda and Amsterdam stop here.
