Capitola is a small community in eastern Leon County, Florida, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city. In 2020, about 247 people lived there. Capitola is near Tallahassee, Florida, which is a bigger city.

History of Capitola
Capitola has an interesting past. The land where it now stands was once part of a large cotton plantation called Evergreen Hills Plantation.
Early Days and Railroad
From 1908 to the 1940s, a train called the Florida Central Railroad served Capitola. This helped connect the community to other places. Capitola was first known as the town of Mays. Some of the first families to settle here were the Duprees, Boyds, and Upchurches.
Tornado in 2008
On March 7, 2008, a strong tornado hit Capitola. It was an EF1 tornado with winds around 105 miles per hour. About six to eight houses were damaged. One person had a minor injury.
Capitola Today
Capitola is a small community in eastern Leon County. It is often seen as a neighbor to Chaires, which is to its southwest.
Community Services
The Chaires-Capitola Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and rescue services. This department helps keep the community safe.
Local Landmarks
The center of Capitola has a small grocery and convenience store called the Capitola Joy Mart. The community is also home to the Capitola Baptist Church, which was started in 1926. There is also The Capitola Cemetery. The cemetery is where Capitola DuPree, the person the town is named after, is buried. It is located off Cap Tram Road in a wooded area. Capitola is known for its beautiful southern landscapes and farms.
