Cara Jocelyn Delevingne (born August 12, 1992) is a famous English model and actress. She started her career in 2009 when she signed with Storm Management. Cara quickly became well-known in the fashion world.
She won the Model of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards twice, in 2012 and 2014. Cara has also won three Teen Choice Awards for her acting. She has been nominated for other awards too, like a British Independent Film Award and an MTV Movie & TV Award. Cara began acting in 2012 with a small part in the movie Anna Karenina. Some of her most famous roles include Margo Roth Spiegelman in Paper Towns (2015), the Enchantress in Suicide Squad (2016), and Laureline in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017).

Cara's Early Life
Cara Jocelyn Delevingne was born on August 12, 1992, in London, England. Her father, Charles Hamar Delevingne, works with properties. Cara grew up in a part of London called Belgravia. She has two older sisters, one of whom is also a model named Poppy Delevingne. She also has a half-brother from her father's side.
Cara's family has some interesting connections. Her maternal grandfather, Sir Jocelyn Stevens, was a publishing executive. Her maternal grandmother, Janie Sheffield, was a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. Cara's godparents are famous people too: Dame Joan Collins and Sir Nicholas Coleridge.
Cara went to Francis Holland School for Girls until she was 16. After that, she moved to Bedales School in Hampshire. She has dyspraxia, which sometimes made school difficult for her. When she was 16, after finishing her GCSEs, she decided to leave school. She wanted to focus on drama and music. After a year, she decided to follow her sister Poppy into the world of modeling.
Cara's Career Journey
Starting Out in Modeling (2002–2011)
Cara's first modeling job was when she was just ten years old. She appeared in a magazine called Vogue Italia. In 2009, she officially signed with Storm Management, a modeling agency. It took her about a year to get her first paid job. She worked hard, going to many auditions before she walked in her first runway show.
In 2012, Burberry's designer, Christopher Bailey, noticed Cara. He saw her working part-time at a fashion website. He then chose her to be in Burberry's spring/summer 2011 advertising campaign.
Cara's first time on a fashion catwalk was in February 2011 at London Fashion Week. She walked for the Burberry Prorsum collection. Later that year, she opened and closed the Burberry Prorsum show for their spring/summer 2012 collection.
Becoming a Top Model (2012)
In early 2012, Cara walked in the Chanel Haute-Couture spring show in Paris. This was just the beginning of a very busy year for her.
During New York Fashion Week, Cara walked in nine shows for many famous designers. These included Jason Wu, Donna Karan, and Oscar de la Renta. In London Fashion Week, she walked only for Burberry. She then walked in six shows during Milan Fashion Week for brands like Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana.
Paris Fashion Week was the last big fashion week. Cara walked in seven shows there, including for Stella McCartney and Chanel. This started a long working relationship with Chanel's head designer, Karl Lagerfeld. He said Cara was "different" and "full of life."
The next international Fashion Month began in September 2012. Cara walked for designers like Marc Jacobs in New York. She continued to walk exclusively for Burberry in London. She also walked for many other designers in London, like Topshop and Matthew Williamson.

For Milan Fashion Week, she walked for brands such as Moschino and Versace. In Paris, she walked in shows for Louis Vuitton and Chanel. By the end of this season, she had walked in over 50 shows! Cara also appeared in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in November 2012. She was part of the 'Pink is US' section and walked while Justin Bieber performed.
In 2013, Cara walked in the Chanel pre-fall show in Scotland. The show took place around Linlithgow Palace and featured Scottish-inspired designs. She also walked in the Chanel Haute-Couture spring show and the Valentino Haute Couture show.
She then went to New York Fashion Week, walking for many designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors. During London Fashion Week, she walked for brands like Mulberry and Burberry. After that, Cara walked in seven more shows at Milan Fashion Week. In Paris, she walked in eleven shows for designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel.
Cara also sang a song called 'I Want Candy' in a short film for a fashion collection. She was also featured in Chanel's Cruise show in Singapore. The international fashion weeks started again in September 2013. Cara walked in five shows in London, opening for Mulberry and closing for Burberry and Topshop. In Milan, she walked for Fendi, and in Paris, for Stella McCartney, Chanel, and Valentino. She ended 2013 by appearing in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show again.
Moving into Acting (2012–2014)
Cara got her first movie role in the 2012 film Anna Karenina. She played Princess Sorokina, a character who was a love interest. In August 2013, Cara lent her voice to a DJ on a pop radio station in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. This game became one of the fastest-selling entertainment products ever.
Cara then played Melanie in the British movie The Face of an Angel. Critics praised her acting in this film. The Metro newspaper said she "proves she can act with a sweet and playful on-screen presence."
In October 2014, she appeared in a comedy TV show called The Feeling Nuts Comedy Night. A month later, she was in the music video for the song Ugly Boy by the group Die Antwoord. In December 2014, Cara starred in Reincarnation, a short film for Chanel, alongside Pharrell Williams.

Focusing on Acting (2015–present)
Many people noticed that Cara was choosing fewer modeling shows. This was because she was focusing more on her acting career. In 2016, Cara explained in an essay for Time that she realized work isn't everything. She wanted to spend more time doing things she loved.
In May 2015, she was in Taylor Swift's music video for "Bad Blood". This video broke records for views in 24 hours.
Cara co-starred in the movie Paper Towns (2015) as Margo Roth Spiegelman. The movie did well at the box office. Critics praised Cara's performance, with one calling her "the real find of the film."
She played a mermaid in the 2015 fantasy film Pan. In 2016, Cara played the villain Enchantress in Suicide Squad, a movie based on DC Comics. The movie was a big success at the box office.
The film Kids in Love, a British drama about growing up, was released in 2016. Cara played the role of Viola.
Cara starred with Dane DeHaan and Rihanna in the movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. This film was based on a comic book series and was released in July 2017.

Cara is also a singer and plays the drums and guitar. She wrote and recorded two music albums in 2011 and 2012. She also sang "I Want Candy" in a short film.
Cara worked with Pharrell Williams to create the song "CC the World." This song was used for the short Chanel film Reincarnation, which they both starred in. They performed the song live in New York in 2015. On July 28, 2017, Cara released the music video for her song "I Feel Everything" from the movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. She also provided background vocals for songs by St. Vincent and Fiona Apple.
In October 2017, Cara became a novelist. She wrote a young adult book called Mirror, Mirror with British writer Rowan Coleman. The book includes themes about being yourself and finding your identity.
In 2020, Cara and her older sisters, Chloe and Poppy, launched Della Vite. This is a brand of vegan Prosecco, which is a type of sparkling wine.

Fashion Design
Cara has also designed two fashion collections. She created collections for DKNY and Mulberry. Her DKNY collection included sporty street style items like hats and leather jackets. DKNY described the collection as "mostly unisex", meaning it could be worn by anyone. This collection took about two years to create and was released in October 2014.
Cara has also designed four collections for Mulberry. These collections featured backpacks and handbags. They also included purses, iPad sleeves, phone covers, and passport holders. Her most recent collection for Mulberry was released in June 2015.
Personal Life
Cara is an animal lover. In 2015, after the killing of Cecil the lion, she sold her personal TAG Heuer watch to help wildlife conservation. She raised £18,600 for a wildlife research unit.
She also started EcoResolution, a platform that works for environmental justice. Cara has spoken about climate change and supports stronger rules to protect the environment. She believes that widespread damage to nature, called ecocide, should be an international crime.
In 2021, Cara joined the Rewriting Extinction campaign. This campaign uses comics to fight the climate and biodiversity crisis. She helped create a short comic story for a book called The Most Important Comic Book on Earth: Stories to Save the World. She said that through stories and community, we can change how we think about extinction.
In March 2023, Cara shared that she had sought help in late 2022 and had been sober since then.
Cara has several tattoos. Her first tattoo is a lion on her finger, which represents her zodiac sign, Leo. She has her lucky number, the Roman numeral XII, on her side. She also has "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the bottom of her left foot. She says her most important tattoo is an elephant on her right arm, which is a tribute to her late grandmother. Her initials "CJD" are on her hand.
2024 House Fire
In March 2024, Cara Delevingne's home in Los Angeles caught fire. Many firefighters responded, but the house was completely destroyed. A firefighter and another person in the house were hurt, but Cara's two cats were saved. Cara was not at home when the fire happened. The next day, it was thought that the fire was likely caused by an electrical problem.
