A Look at its History

The land for Caratoola Recreation Park was first protected on April 24, 1969. Back then, it was called the Caratoola National Parks Reserve. It was created under a law called the National Parks Act 1966.

A few years later, on April 27, 1972, the park's name changed. It was re-proclaimed under a new law, the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. This is when it officially became the Caratoola Recreation Park.

In 2012, Caratoola Recreation Park was considered for a change. It was one of several recreation parks that might become a conservation park. Conservation parks are usually focused more on protecting nature.
