Where is Carbonville?
Carbonville is located in the state of Utah. You can find it just northwest of Price. Price is the main city and the county seat for Carbon County.
The Price River flows nearby on the west side of Carbonville. Also, a major road called U.S. Route 6 runs past the community. To the north of Carbonville is the older community of Spring Glen.
Carbonville's Early History
Carbonville was one of the very first places settled in what became Carbon County. A man named Caleb Rhoades built a simple shelter here in 1877. This shelter was a "dugout," which is a home dug into the side of a hill or the ground.
Rhoades later moved on to start the city of Price in 1879. The area where Carbonville is now was once called "Rhoades Meadow." It had a lot of water, but the water wasn't very good quality.
The community of Carbonville grew slowly at first. Most new people moving to the area preferred to live in Price or Spring Glen. These places were more developed.
However, Carbonville saw a lot of growth after World War II. This was during a time when industries and housing were booming. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints even created its first local group, called a "ward," here in the late 1940s. A second ward was formed in the 1950s.
