Cardell Camper (born July 6, 1952 – died December 7, 2010) was a professional baseball player. He was a pitcher, which means he threw the ball to the batter.
Cardell Camper's Baseball Journey
Cardell Camper played baseball for seven seasons. He started in the minor leagues. These are teams that help players get ready for the major leagues. He played for teams connected to the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Major League Debut
In September 1977, the Cleveland Indians needed more players. They called up Cardell Camper to join their team. This was his chance to play in Major League Baseball (MLB).
He played in three games that year:
- On September 11, he pitched two innings without letting the other team score. This game was in Baltimore.
- On September 17, he pitched two more scoreless innings. This time, it was a home game against Toronto.
- On October 2, he started a game in Toronto. He pitched for six innings. The other team, the Blue Jays, scored four runs against him. But his team, the Indians, won the game 5-4! This meant Cardell Camper earned his first and only win in the major leagues. It was also his last game in the MLB.
A Trade and Retirement
After the 1977 season, Cardell Camper was traded. He went to the Philadelphia Phillies. In exchange, the Indians received a player named Joe Charboneau. Joe later became the American League Rookie of the Year in 1980.
Cardell Camper's baseball career ended in 1979. He passed away in 2010.
