The Cardigan River and Food Festival is a super fun yearly event. It happens in Cardigan, Ceredigion, a town in Wales. This festival is a big celebration of delicious local food. It also highlights the amazing River Teifi that flows through Cardigan.

At the festival, you can watch chefs cook tasty dishes. There are also exciting river activities, live music, and dancing. It's a great day out for everyone!

What Happens at the Festival?

The main goal of the festival is to show off the awesome food made in Wales. It celebrates all the different local food makers. Imagine trying cheese from local cheesemakers! You might even see farmers who raise special, uncommon animals.

Food and Fun

  • Local Food Market: You can explore a big market. Here, about 100 local food producers sell their yummy goods.
  • Cooking Shows: Watch talented local chefs. They use fresh, local ingredients to cook amazing meals right in front of you.
  • Food Court: This is a special area with tables and chairs. You can sit here, eat your food, and enjoy a lovely view of the river.
  • Entertainment Area: Get ready for some fun! This area has live music. You can hear singers, dancers, and groups playing different styles. These include folk, rock, dance, and classical music.

River Adventures

The festival also has lots of activities connected to the river:

  • Boat Rides: Take a relaxing ride on the river.
  • Boat Competitions: See who has the "best dressed" boat!
  • Rescue Shows: Watch exciting rescue demonstrations by the RNLI. They are the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
  • Coracle Demonstrations: Fishermen from Cilgerran show how to use Coracles. These are small, round boats. The ones used here are special to the River Teifi.
  • Long Boat Race: Cheer on teams from Cardigan and St Dogmaels. They race each other in long boats every year.

Swimming Challenge

The Teifi Boat Club brings their small boats, called Dinghies, to the festival. The local Outdoor Swimming Society also finishes their yearly 10-kilometer swim here. This long swim starts in Cardigan. Swimmers go upriver to Cilgerran and then swim back.

How the Festival Started

The festival takes place at the Quay Street Car Park in Cardigan. There is a small fee to enter the festival.

The festival was started by a group called Menter Aberteifi Cyf. This group began in 1996. Their main goal was to help make Cardigan a better town for everyone. They are a "not-for-profit" company. This means they use any money they make to help the community, not to make a profit for owners.
