About the Festival
The main goal of the Cardigan River and Food Festival is to show off the amazing local food producers in Wales. These are often small, independent businesses that make really special food. The festival brings together as many as 100 local producers. You might find cheesemakers with tasty cheeses or farmers who raise rare animals.
What Happens at the Festival?
The festival has a big market where you can buy local food. There are also live cooking shows where talented chefs use fresh, local ingredients. Imagine watching them create delicious dishes right in front of you!
- Food Court: This is a special area with tables and chairs. You can sit here, enjoy your food and drinks, and get a great view of the River Teifi.
- Entertainment Area: This spot is full of music and performances. You can see singers, dancers, and groups playing different kinds of music. This includes folk music, rock, dance, and classical music.
- River Activities: Since the festival is all about the river, there are lots of water-based activities. You can go on boat rides or watch competitions for the best-decorated boats. The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) even shows how they rescue people on the water.
Coracles and Races
You can also see special Coracle demonstrations. These are small, round boats used by fishermen for a very long time. Fishermen from Cilgerran show how they use coracles made in the unique River Teifi style. There's also an exciting yearly long boat race between clubs from Cardigan and St Dogmaels.
River Swims and Boats
Boats like Dinghies from the Teifi Boat Club join in the fun. The local Outdoor Swimming Society also finishes their yearly 10-kilometer Teifi swim at the festival. Swimmers start in Cardigan, go upriver to Cilgerran, and then swim back.
How the Festival is Organized
The Cardigan River and Food Festival takes place at the Quay Street Car Park in Cardigan. There is a small fee to enter the festival.
Who Organizes It?
The festival was started by a group called Menter Aberteifi Cyf. This group is a social enterprise. This means it's a business that aims to help the community, not just make money. Menter Aberteifi Cyf. was set up in 1996. Their main goal is to help Cardigan town become a better place for everyone who lives there. It's a not-for-profit company, which means any money it makes goes back into helping the community.
