The River Teifi is a beautiful river located in west Wales. It starts high up in the hills, near the town of Tregaron. From there, it flows into a large, wet area called Tregaron bog. This bog is like a natural sponge. It helps control the river's flow, soaking up extra water when it rains a lot and slowly releasing it during dry spells. This keeps the river from flooding too much or drying out.
The water in the River Teifi is very clean and healthy. This makes it a perfect home for many different animals and plants. You can find amazing fish like Salmon and Trout living here. Because the wildlife is so special, the entire river has been given special protection by scientists. This helps make sure the river and its creatures stay safe and healthy for a long time.
Journey of the Teifi River
The River Teifi travels through several small towns as it makes its way to the sea. It passes through places like Lampeter and Newcastle Emlyn. Finally, it reaches the coast at the town of Cardigan.
The Cigerran Gorge
Just before the river reaches Cardigan, it flows through a deep, narrow valley called Cigerran Gorge. This part of the river is very scenic. It's also a place where some people still fish for Salmon using a very old and unique type of boat.
Ancient Coracle Boats
The special boats used for fishing in the gorge are called Coracles. A coracle is a small, round, lightweight boat. It's been used in Wales for thousands of years! Fishermen sit in these boats and use a paddle to move around. It's a traditional way of fishing that connects people to the river's long history.
