NRHP reference No. 10000197
Added to NRHP April 19, 2010

The Cardy Site is a special historical place located on the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin. It's found just south of Sturgeon Bay. This important site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. This means it's recognized as a significant part of history that needs to be protected.

Who Lived at the Cardy Site?

Long, long ago, the Cardy Site was home to some of the very first people in North America. These early people are known as Paleo-Indians. They lived here thousands of years ago, often following large animals like mammoths.

Protecting This Important Place

Over time, the city of Sturgeon Bay grew bigger. As the city expanded, some parts of the Cardy Site were developed. This development disturbed the ground, making those areas less useful for finding old artifacts.

Luckily, a large part of the site remained untouched. The Cardy family started protecting this undeveloped land in 1960. Later, in 2009, the site was added to the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places. Today, The Archaeological Conservancy owns and protects the Cardy Site.

This special place is now open to the public. You can visit it and learn about its history. It's even listed as an interesting spot near the famous Ice Age Trail.
