Carl Philip Robinson (born 13 October 1976) is a Welsh former professional footballer. He played as a central midfielder. Carl is currently an assistant coach at Atlanta United FC.

Carl Robinson's Early Life
Carl Robinson was born and grew up in Llandrindod Wells, Wales. He went to Oxford Road Primary School. Later, he attended Llandrindod High School.
Carl Robinson's Club Career
Carl Robinson had a long career playing for many football clubs. He started as a young player and then moved on to play for several teams.
Playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers
Carl began his football journey as a trainee with Wolverhampton Wanderers, also known as Wolves. He joined their first team for the 1995–96 season.
Loan to Shrewsbury Town
In March 1996, Carl was loaned to Shrewsbury Town. This was to help him get more experience playing in first-team games. He played his first professional game for Shrewsbury Town. It was a 1–1 draw against Hull City. He also played in a cup final at Wembley Stadium.
Return to Wolves
After his loan, Carl went back to Wolves. He became a regular player for the team over the next six seasons. During this time, Wolves often tried to get promoted to the Premier League. Carl left Wolves in June 2002 when his contract ended. He had played over 180 games for the club.
Moving to Portsmouth
In July 2002, Carl joined Portsmouth. He played 15 league games for them. He also went on loan to other clubs like Sheffield Wednesday and Walsall. The next season, he was loaned out again to Rotherham, Sheffield United, and Sunderland. He even played one Premier League game for Portsmouth against Chelsea.
Time at Sunderland
Carl impressed the team at Sunderland during his loan. So, he signed a three-year deal with them in June 2004. He helped Sunderland win the Championship and get promoted. He played in 42 out of 46 matches that season. This made him a favorite among the fans.
Playing for Norwich City
After a loan period, Carl joined Norwich City permanently in January 2006. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. Carl scored his first goal for Norwich in a big 5–1 win against Barnsley.
Joining Toronto FC
On 31 January 2007, Carl moved to Toronto FC in Canada. He scored his first goal in the MLS against FC Dallas. He was voted the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) in his first two years there.
Playing for New York Red Bulls
In March 2010, Carl was traded from Toronto FC to the New York Red Bulls. He started for New York in their first game at the new Red Bull Arena. On 21 August 2010, he scored his first goal for the Red Bulls against his old club, Toronto FC. He chose not to celebrate out of respect for his former fans. While at New York Red Bulls, he also started working as a player-coach.
Carl Robinson's International Career
Carl Robinson also played for the Wales national team. He made his first international appearance against Belarus in 1999. He was named the man of the match in that game. His 50th game for Wales was a 2–0 win against Liechtenstein. On 1 April 2009, Carl announced he was retiring from international football. He was 32 years old and had played 52 games for Wales.
Carl Robinson's Coaching Career
After finishing his playing career, Carl Robinson moved into coaching.
Coaching Vancouver Whitecaps FC
In January 2012, Carl retired as a player. He then joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC as an assistant coach. In December 2013, he became the head coach of the club. He coached the Whitecaps for almost five years. He led the team in nearly 200 games. The club and Carl decided to part ways in September 2018.
Coaching Newcastle Jets
In February 2020, Carl signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. This was to become the head coach of the Australian club Newcastle Jets. In October 2020, the Jets announced that Carl was talking with another club.
Coaching Western Sydney Wanderers
On 15 October 2020, Western Sydney Wanderers announced they had signed Carl Robinson. He became their new head coach. However, on 30 January 2022, the Wanderers decided to let Carl go from his coaching duties.
Coaching Birmingham City
Carl later worked with Wayne Rooney at Major League Soccer club D.C. United. In October 2023, Carl followed Rooney to EFL Championship club Birmingham City. He joined as a first-team coach. After fifteen matches, Carl and Rooney were dismissed on 2 January 2024.
