Carla's Story
Carla Estrada has achieved many great things in her career. In 2005, the Mexican government honored her by placing a statue of her in a major park in Mexico City. In January 2007, People En Español magazine named her one of the 100 most influential Hispanic people in the world.
One of her telenovelas, Amor Real, was incredibly popular. When it was shown in the United States, it had more viewers than many other TV shows. This even helped the Spanish-language network Univision get higher ratings than big American networks like NBC and ABC.
Carla first studied psychology at the UAM university in Xochimilco. But she soon realized it wasn't the right path for her. She decided to change her major to communications. This choice made sense because her father was a journalist and her mother was an actress.
Before she even graduated in 1978, Carla was hired by Televisa, a major Mexican TV company. She made history there by becoming the first woman producer in Mexican television. At first, it was tough, and some famous actors didn't want to work with her. But over time, things changed. She went on to produce some of the most famous soap operas in Mexico and Latin America. She worked with many well-known actors like Adamari López, Adela Noriega, Lucero, and Fernando Colunga.
Victor Hugo O'Farril asked Carla to produce soap operas for Televisa. Her very first soap opera was Pobre Juventud. Before that, she produced a popular show for teens called Xe-Tu, which featured future stars like Gloria Trevi.
Carla has shared that she faced challenges during the production of Pobre Juventud. Some employees were not used to having a woman as their boss. She often talks about how important it is to share positive messages through her shows. She also loves creating stories about love.
Many people, including her friend Cristina Saralegui, believe Carla Estrada is the best soap opera producer in Mexico. Her shows are popular all over the world. For example, her project Amor Real was watched by 59 percent of the Mexican audience at one point.
