Early Life and Education
Carla first went to the UAM university in Xochimilco to study psychology. However, she soon decided that career was not for her. She then chose to study communications. This choice made sense because her father was a journalist and her mother was an actress.
Starting Her TV Journey
Before she even graduated from UAM in 1978, Carla Estrada was hired by Televisa. This was a big step! She made history at Televisa by becoming the first woman producer in Mexican television. At first, it was tough. Many famous people didn't want to work with her.
Over time, things changed a lot. She became known for producing some of Mexico's most famous soap operas. She worked with many well-known actors like Adamari López, Adela Noriega, Lucero, and Fernando Colunga. Victor Hugo O'Farril asked her to produce soap operas for Televisa. Her very first soap opera was called Pobre Juventud. Before that, she produced a show for teens called Xe-Tu, where many future stars like Gloria Trevi appeared.
Challenges and Successes
Carla Estrada has shared that she faced challenges when she started. Some employees were not used to having a woman boss. Despite these difficulties, she kept working hard.
She often talks about how important it is to share positive messages in her shows. She also loves telling stories about love. Many people, including her friend Cristina Saralegui, believe Carla Estrada is the best soap opera producer in Mexico. Her shows are popular all over the world. For example, one of her projects, Amor Real, was watched by 59 percent of the Mexican audience. When Amor Real was shown in the United States, it had higher ratings than many other American TV shows. This helped Univision become a top network, even beating channels like NBC and ABC.
