Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz (born February 15, 1968), known as Gloria Trevi, is a famous Mexican singer and songwriter. She is known for her powerful songs and exciting performances. Many people call her the "Mexican Queen of Pop" because of her big influence on Latin music.
Gloria Trevi started her journey in music at a young age. She moved to Mexico City when she was 15 to study performing arts. In 1984, she joined a girl group called Boquitas Pintadas. After the group, she began her solo career.
Her first album, ¿Qué Hago Aquí? (1989), became very popular. It included her hit song "Dr. Psiquiatra." Throughout the 1990s, Gloria Trevi released many successful albums. These included Tu Ángel de la Guarda (1991), Me Siento Tan Sola (1992), Más Turbada Que Nunca (1994), and Si Me Llevas Contigo (1995). Songs like "Pelo Suelto," "Zapatos Viejos," and "Con los Ojos Cerrados" made her an international star.
In the late 1990s, Gloria Trevi stepped away from public life. After a challenging period, she returned to music in the 2000s. Her life and career have been shown in movies and TV shows.
Since her return, Trevi has released many more successful albums. These include Gloria (2011), El Amor (2015), Inmortal (2016), and Versus (2017) with Alejandra Guzmán. Early Life and Music Beginnings
Gloria Trevi was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. She moved to Mexico City to follow her dream of becoming a singer. When she was a child, she loved listening to American and British rock music. Some of her favorite artists were Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Janis Joplin.
Career Highlights
Early Success: 1985–1995
In 1985, Gloria Trevi joined a girl group called Boquitas Pintadas. The group was together for a short time. After the group ended in 1988, she started working on her first solo album. This album, ¿Qué Hago Aquí? (What Am I Doing Here?), came out in 1989. It had a number one hit song called "Dr. Psiquiatra." People often called Gloria Trevi the Madonna of Mexico because of her unique style.
In 1991, Trevi released her second album, Tu Ángel de la Guarda (Your Guardian Angel). Many people think this is one of her best albums. The first song from the album, "Pelo Suelto," was a huge success around the world. It reached number one in many Latin American countries and in Spain. Billboard magazine even put Tu Ángel de la Guarda on their list of the greatest Latin albums of all time.
Her third album, Me Siento Tan Sola (I Feel So Alone), was released in 1992. It featured another popular song, "Zapatos Viejos." Gloria Trevi also starred in a movie with the same name in 1993. In 1994, she released two more hit songs, "El Recuento De Los Daños" and "La Papa Sin Catsup." These songs were from her fourth album, Más Turbada Que Nunca (More Turbulent than Ever). Both songs were very popular on the Billboard Latin charts.
In December 1995, Trevi released her last album of that decade, Si Me Llevas Contigo (If You Take Me with You). This album had two popular songs: "Ella Que Nunca Fue Ella" and "Si Me Llevas Contigo." On March 13, 1996, Gloria Trevi announced she would take a break from music. She performed her last two concerts at the National Auditorium on March 16 and 17.
Return to Music: 2004–2014
After a break, Gloria Trevi released her sixth album, Como Nace el Universo ("How the Universe Is Born"), in 2004. This album was seen as a great comeback. Her seventh album, Una Rosa Blu, released in 2007, was a huge success. It had several popular songs like "Psicofonia, Pruebamelo," "El Favor de la Soledad," "Cinco Minutos," and "Todos Me Miran."
During award season, Trevi won Female Artist of the Year at the Premio Lo Nuestro. She also won Female Airplay Song of the Year for "Cinco Minutos" at the Billboard Music Awards. In 2010, Trevi released her eighth album, Gloria. This album included successful songs such as "Vestida de Azucar," "Me Rio de Ti," and "Esa Hembra es Mala." The song "Esa Hembra es Mala" was used as the main song for the TV show Teresa.
In 2013, Trevi released her tenth album, De Pelicula. The song "No Querias Lastimarme" from this album was a big hit. It reached the top ten on the Latin Billboard charts and was number one in many Latin American countries.
Recent Projects: 2015–2018
In 2015, Gloria Trevi released her eleventh album, El Amor. This album featured covers of popular love songs and some new songs. Trevi created two characters for the album: Mr. Trevi and Mrs. Gloria. The album was number one on the Billboard charts. It included two popular songs, "Como Yo Te Amo" and "Las Pequeñas Cosas." Her "El Amor World Tour" started in Los Angeles and traveled through the United States, Spain, Peru, Chile, and other parts of Latin America.
In 2017, Trevi worked with fellow Mexican artist Alejandra Guzmán on the album Versus. This album had two songs, "Cuando un Hombre te Enamora" and "Mas Buena." The two singers then went on the Versus World Tour together. The tour started in Los Angeles and included concerts across the United States, Mexico, South America, and Canada. The live album from the Versus World Tour was released in November 2017. The tour finished in April 2018.
Personal Life
Gloria Trevi married Armando Gómez, who is a lawyer, in 2009. She lives in McAllen, Texas, with her husband and her two sons. In 2016, Gloria Trevi received the BMI President's Award. This award recognized her big impact on Latin pop music.
