Carla Robinson was born on January 23, 1971, in Kitimat, British Columbia. She is a Canadian television journalist. She is well-known for her work at CBC Newsworld, where she helped share important news stories with people across Canada.

Growing Up and Learning

Carla Robinson grew up in Kitimat, a town also known as Kitamaat. For a short time, she lived on her mother's reserve in Bella Bella, British Columbia. When she was six years old, she moved back to Kitamaat. Carla is a member of the Haisla and Heiltsuk First Nations. These are two of the many Indigenous groups in Canada.

Carla worked hard in school. In 1995, she earned a special degree in mass communications from Carleton University. The next year, in 1996, she completed her master's degree in journalism at the University of Western Ontario. This education helped her prepare for a career in news.

Her Exciting Career in TV

Carla Robinson started her journalism journey very early. When she was just sixteen, she began writing articles for a local newspaper called The Northern Sentinel Press. This was her first step into the world of news.

She also wrote for other publications like Aboriginal Voices, The Rez, and Dreamspeaker. Later, she reported for BCTV News and hosted a show called Pressure Point on Rogers Television in Vancouver.

Working at CBC News

Carla became a familiar face on CBC. From August 1998 to March 2013, she was an anchor for the evening news broadcasts. This meant she was the main person presenting the news to viewers. She also hosted a weekly show called Absolutely Canadian. This show focused on news important to First Nations communities.

In 2004, Carla took over from a famous host named Knowlton Nash. She became the host of CBC's educational series News in Review. This program helped students understand current events. In 2013, she hosted another series called "All Our Relations" which was shown on APTN, a channel for Indigenous programming.

Beyond the News Desk

Carla Robinson has also used her skills in other ways. She worked for the Canadian government in a department that dealt with Indigenous and northern affairs. She also helped teach students through the Junior Achievement Stay in School program. This program encourages young people to stay in school and plan for their future.

Today, Carla is the founder and president of her own company, Carla Robinson Media Productions.

Her Family Life

Carla Robinson has two children named Sam and Leenah. Her sister, Eden Robinson, is also a well-known Canadian writer.
