Early Life and Learning
Carla Robinson grew up in Kitimat, a town in British Columbia. For a short time, she lived on her mother's reserve in Bella Bella, British Columbia. A reserve is a special area of land set aside for First Nations people. When she was six years old, she moved back to Kitimat. Carla is a member of the Haisla and Heiltsuk First Nations.
She studied at Carleton University and earned a special degree in mass communications in 1995. This means she learned a lot about how news and information are shared with many people. After that, she got a master's degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario in 1996. Journalism is the work of collecting and writing news for newspapers, magazines, television, or radio.
Carla Robinson's Career
Carla Robinson started her journalism journey when she was just sixteen years old. She began by writing articles for a newspaper called The Northern Sentinel Press. Over the years, she also wrote for other publications like Aboriginal Voices, The Rez, and Dreamspeaker.
Before joining CBC, she reported for BCTV News. She also hosted a show called Pressure Point on Rogers Television in Vancouver.
From August 1998 until March 2013, Carla was an anchor for evening news broadcasts on CBC. An anchor is the main person who presents the news on television. She also hosted a weekly show called Absolutely Canadian. This show focused on news important to First Nations communities. In 2004, she took over from Knowlton Nash as the host of CBC's educational series News in Review. This show helped students understand current events. In 2013, she hosted a biography series called "All Our Relations" which was shown on APTN.
Carla has also worked for the Canadian government in the Ministry of Indian and Northern Affairs. This department works with First Nations communities. She also taught students in a program called Stay in School for Junior Achievement.
Today, Carla Robinson is the founder and president of her own company, Carla Robinson Media Productions.

Carla Robinson has two children, named Sam and Leenah. Her sister, Eden Robinson, is also a well-known Canadian writer.
