About Carleton Naiche-Palmer
Carleton Naiche-Palmer was born in 1947. He was a descendant of famous Chiricahua Apache leaders, Naiche and Cochise. His father, Ignacius Palmer, was an artist.
Education and Family Life
Carleton Naiche-Palmer studied business at different universities. He earned a bachelor's degree from Western New Mexico University. He then got a master's degree from Pepperdine University. He also earned a doctorate in social and economic development from Arbor University. For 27 years, he lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 1970, he married Ada Rose Enjady. They had five children together.
His Career and Community Work
Before becoming president, Naiche-Palmer was the chairman of the board of directors for the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino. This is a well-known resort and casino. He also served on the Mescalero tribal council, helping to make decisions for his community.
He owned a firm that helped people in the Mescalero Apache Tribal Court. He was also active in several important groups. These included the American Indian Business and Technologies and the All Indian Pueblo Council. He also worked with Sandia National Laboratories and the National Indian Council on Aging.
Serving as President of the Mescalero Apache
Carleton Naiche-Palmer was elected president of the Mescalero Apache Tribe in November 2007. He won against the person who was president before him, Sara Misquez. He officially started his term as president on January 11, 2008.
He served one term as president. When it was time for the next election in September 2009, he ran again. However, he did not win enough votes in the primary election to continue. Mark Chino, another former president, was elected as the new president.
Carleton Naiche-Palmer passed away on December 12, 2010, at the age of 63. He died in a hospital in El Paso, Texas. He was survived by his wife, Ada, and their five children. He also had 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His son, Scott "Scotty" Ryan Palmer, had passed away earlier in 2009.
