Carll Cneut (born 8 January 1969) is a famous Flemish illustrator. An illustrator is an artist who creates pictures for books, magazines, or other media. Carll Cneut has drawn pictures for many books by Dutch and Flemish writers. He has also won many awards for his amazing artwork.

Early Life and Education

Carll Cneut was born on January 8, 1969. He grew up in Roeselare, Belgium.

He went to the Sint-Lucas School in Ghent, Belgium. There, he studied graphic design. This taught him how to create visual art for different purposes.

His Career as an Illustrator

Carll Cneut started his career by illustrating a poetry book. It was called Varkentjes van marsepein and was written by Geert De Kockere. This was his first big step into the world of children's books.

He quickly became known for his unique style. He won the Boekenpauw award twice. This award is given to the best illustrated children's book in Flanders. He won it in 2000 for the book Willy, also by Geert De Kockere. He won again in 2004 for Mijnheer Ferdinand, written by Agnes Guldemont.

In 2002, Carll Cneut wrote and illustrated his own book. It was titled Het ongelooflijke liefdesverhaal van Heer Morf. This book was very successful. In 2003, he won several awards for it. These included the Eselsohr award and the Zilveren Penseel. He also received the Prix d'Illustration Jeunesse.

His illustrations also gained international recognition. At the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava, he won a Golden Plaque in 2003. This was for his work in Het ongelooflijke liefdesverhaal van Heer Morf and Mijnheer Ferdinand. He won this award again in 2005 for his illustrations in the book Dulle Griet.

In 2009, Carll Cneut worked with writer Peter Verhelst. They created the book Het geheim van de keel van de nachtegaal. This book was a new version of the classic fairy tale The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen. They won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for this book. Carll Cneut also received the Boekenpluim award for his illustrations.

He continued to win awards for his beautiful artwork. In 2015, he won another Boekenpluim award. This was for illustrating De gouden kooi, written by Anna Castagnoli.

Carll Cneut has illustrated books for many well-known authors. These include Edward van de Vendel, Ed Franck, Carl Norac, and Brigitte Minne. His artwork has even appeared in The New York Times. Many of his books are published by De Eenhoorn.
