Carll Cneut is a famous illustrator from Flemish Belgium. He was born on January 8, 1969. He creates amazing pictures for books, especially for authors from the Netherlands and Belgium. Carll Cneut has won many important awards for his beautiful artwork.

Carll Cneut's Early Life and Education

Carll Cneut grew up in Belgium. When he was older, he went to the Sint-Lucas School in Ghent, Belgium. At this school, he studied something called graphic design. Graphic design is all about creating visual art and layouts for different things, like books and magazines.

Carll Cneut's Career as an Illustrator

Carll Cneut started his career by illustrating a poetry book. It was called Varkentjes van marsepein and was written by Geert De Kockere. This was his first big step into the world of children's books.

Winning Awards for His Illustrations

Carll Cneut has won many awards for his work. He won the Boekenpauw award twice. The first time was in 2000 for his illustrations in the book Willy, also by Geert De Kockere. He won it again in 2004 for the book Mijnheer Ferdinand, written by Agnes Guldemont.

In 2002, Carll Cneut wrote and illustrated his own book called Het ongelooflijke liefdesverhaal van Heer Morf. This book was very popular and won several awards in 2003. These included the Eselsohr award, the Zilveren Penseel, and the Prix d'Illustration Jeunesse. He also received a Golden Plaque at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava for this book. He won another Golden Plaque in 2005 for his illustrations in the book Dulle Griet.

In 2009, Carll Cneut worked with Peter Verhelst on a book called Het geheim van de keel van de nachtegaal. This book was a new version of the classic fairy tale The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen. They won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for it. Carll Cneut also received the Boekenpluim award for his illustrations in this book.

More recently, in 2015, he won the Boekenpluim award again. This time it was for his illustrations in the book De gouden kooi, written by Anna Castagnoli.

Over the years, Carll Cneut has illustrated books for many different authors. Some of these authors include Edward van de Vendel, Ed Franck, Carl Norac, and Brigitte Minne.
