Club Career Highlights
Carlos Diogo was born in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. He began his football journey with local clubs like River Plate Montevideo and Peñarol. In January 2005, he moved to Argentina to play for Club Atlético River Plate.
Playing in Spain
In July 2005, Carlos Diogo joined the famous Spanish team Real Madrid. Another player from Uruguay, Pablo García, also joined Real Madrid at the same time. However, it was hard for Diogo to get many chances to play in the main team.
Because of this, Real Madrid decided to loan him to another Spanish team, Real Zaragoza, for the 2006–07 season. This loan move became permanent in April 2007. Real Madrid agreed to a lower transfer fee, with a special condition that Diogo would not join their rival team, FC Barcelona, in the future.
Dealing with Injuries
Carlos Diogo faced a serious knee injury that made him miss the entire 2008–09 football season. At that time, his team, Real Zaragoza, was playing in the second division of Spanish football. He had a second surgery in April 2009, which meant he was out of action for another eight months.
On December 12, 2009, Diogo finally returned to playing. Real Zaragoza was back in the top league. He even scored a goal in his return game, but his team lost 1–2 at home to Athletic Bilbao. He played 14 more games that season, helping his team avoid being moved down to a lower league.
In the 2010–11 season, Diogo was fully fit again. He started in every league game he played, showing his importance to the team. Real Zaragoza once again managed to stay in the top league. He left the club in July after not agreeing on a new contract.
Later Career Moves
In January 2012, Diogo signed with PFC CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. However, he asked to leave the team after only 15 days, and his request was granted. In September of the same year, he returned to football and signed with SD Huesca, a team close to Zaragoza.
In June 2013, Diogo moved to Belgium and signed a one-year contract with Belgian Pro League team K.A.A. Gent. He left the club in January 2014 and returned to Real Zaragoza in the summer.
International Career
Carlos Diogo started playing for the Uruguay national team on March 28, 2003. His first game was a friendly match against Japan in Tokyo, where he played for nine minutes. He proudly represented Uruguay in two important tournaments: the 2004 and 2007 Copa América.

Carlos Diogo's father, Víctor Diogo, was also a footballer. He played for Peñarol, just like Carlos, and for some clubs in Brazil.
