Club Career Highlights
Early Football Days
Carlos Diogo was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He started his football journey with clubs like River Plate Montevideo and Peñarol in Uruguay. In January 2005, he moved to Argentina to play for Club Atlético River Plate.
Playing for Real Madrid and Zaragoza
In July 2005, Carlos Diogo joined one of Spain's biggest football teams, Real Madrid. However, he did not get to play many games for them. So, in August 2006, Real Madrid decided to loan him to another La Liga team, Real Zaragoza.
His move to Zaragoza became permanent in April 2007. Real Madrid agreed to a lower transfer fee for him. This deal also included a special condition: Carlos could not join their rival team, FC Barcelona, in the future.
A Difficult Moment and Recovery
On January 6, 2007, during a game, Carlos was involved in an incident with a player from Sevilla FC. This led to both players being suspended from playing for five matches.
Later, Carlos faced a serious knee injury. Because of this injury, he missed the entire 2008–09 season. Zaragoza was playing in the second division at that time. He had a second surgery in April 2009, which meant he was out of action for another eight months.
Returning to the Field
On December 12, 2009, Carlos Diogo made his comeback. Zaragoza was back in the top league. He even scored a goal in his return game, but his team lost 1–2 to Athletic Bilbao. He played 14 more games that season, helping his team avoid being relegated to a lower division.
In the 2010–11 season, Carlos was fully fit again. He started in all the league games he played, helping Zaragoza stay in the top league once more. He left the club in July after not agreeing on a new contract.
Later Career Moves
In January 2012, Carlos signed with PFC CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. But he asked to leave after only 15 days, and the club agreed. In September of the same year, he returned to football. He signed with SD Huesca, a team close to Zaragoza.
In June 2013, Carlos Diogo joined K.A.A. Gent in the Belgian Pro League for one year. He left the club in January 2014 and returned to Zaragoza in the summer.
