This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or a village. Instead, it's part of a larger area called the Town of Egg Harbor.
You can find Carlsville along Wisconsin Highway 42. It's located between two other towns: Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor.
History of Carlsville
Carlsville has been around for a long time, since the 1860s. When it was first settled, it had a slightly different name: Karlsville.
Why the Name Karlsville?
The original name, Karlsville, came about because many of the men living in the settlement at that time were named Karl. It was a simple way to identify the community.
How the Name Changed
Later on, the name was changed to Carlsville. This process is called Anglicization. It means changing a name or word to make it sound more English. So, "Karlsville" became "Carlsville" to fit in better with English spelling and pronunciation.
