Carlton Michael George Cole (born 12 October 1983) is an English football coach and former professional footballer. He played as a striker, scoring 52 goals in 288 Premier League games. He played for four different clubs in the Premier League.
Cole started his career at Chelsea in 2001. He also spent time on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, and Aston Villa. In 2006, he moved to West Ham United. He left West Ham in 2013 but rejoined them a few months later. The club released him again in May 2015. After that, he played for Celtic in Scotland, Sacramento Republic in the USA, and Persib Bandung in Indonesia.
He played 19 games for the England under-21 team, scoring six goals. He made his first appearance for the England national team on 11 February 2009. This was in a friendly match against Spain.

Carlton Cole's Club Career Highlights
Starting at Chelsea: 2001-2006
Carlton Cole was born in Croydon, London. His father was Nigerian, and his mother was from Sierra Leone. He began his football journey as a trainee with Chelsea. He signed his first professional contract with the club in October 2000.
He played his first game for the senior team on 6 April 2002. He came on as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Everton. Three weeks later, he started his first game and scored a goal. Chelsea beat Middlesbrough in that match.
In the 2002–03 season, Cole scored in the first game against Charlton Athletic. He then got a hairline fracture in his leg. He returned in November, scoring two goals in a League Cup game against Gillingham. Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri praised Cole, calling him the best young player he had coached. However, with other top strikers available, Cole's chances were limited. He went on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers for two months.
Cole played seven games for Wolves, scoring one goal. Chelsea recalled him early in January 2003. He played 12 more games for Chelsea that season, scoring six goals in total. This included a great long-range goal against Sunderland.
In July 2003, Cole signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea. After Chelsea bought new international strikers, Cole went on a season-long loan to Charlton Athletic. He scored five goals in 22 games for Charlton. This helped them finish seventh in the Premier League.
For the 2004–05 season, Cole joined Aston Villa on loan. He scored three goals in 30 games for Villa. He scored on his debut in a 2–0 win against Southampton. His season was interrupted by a knee injury in February 2005.
He returned to Chelsea in 2005. But with Didier Drogba and Hernán Crespo playing, he had few chances. Cole played only 12 games for Chelsea in the 2005–06 season. He scored one goal in an FA Cup win. In July 2006, he joined West Ham United. He had played 31 games for Chelsea, scoring eight goals.
Playing for West Ham United: 2006-2015
Cole joined West Ham United in July 2006. He signed a four-year contract. He scored seconds into his first game for West Ham. He came on as a substitute to help West Ham win 3–1 against Charlton. In his first season, he played 23 games and scored three goals.

In the 2008–09 season, Cole scored twelve goals and made four assists. He started the season well, scoring four goals in his first eight games. In October 2008, he received his first red card for West Ham. His good form earned him a new five-year contract in November.
He continued his strong performance in the 2009–10 season. He played 30 Premier League games and scored ten goals. He was linked with a big transfer to Manchester United. He missed some time with a knee injury.
In August 2010, he was linked with a move to Liverpool. On 26 December, he scored two goals in a Premier League game for the first time. This was in a 3–1 win against Fulham. He also scored two goals in a 4–0 League Cup win against Manchester United.
In the 2011–12 season, Cole stayed with West Ham despite interest from other clubs. He scored four goals in four games early in the season. On 19 November, he scored West Ham's 2000th away league goal. He scored his 50th goal for West Ham in December. On 19 May 2012, Cole scored his 15th goal of the season. This was in West Ham's 2–1 win over Blackpool in the play-off final. This win sent West Ham back to the Premier League. He was West Ham's top goal scorer that season.
Cole's first goal of the 2012–13 season came in a 3–1 win against Chelsea. He scored again in December but was sent off. West Ham appealed, and the red card was removed. He was mostly used as a substitute that season. On 21 May 2013, West Ham announced Cole would leave the club. He had been there for seven seasons.
On 14 October 2013, Cole signed a short-term contract to return to West Ham. He scored his first goal in his second spell in November. He scored two goals in a 3–0 win against Fulham. He went on to score four more goals. In January 2014, Cole signed an 18-month contract.
Cole started West Ham's first game of the 2014–15 season. He scored his first goal of the season in August. He scored two more goals that season. In January, a move to West Bromwich Albion fell through. Cole played 23 league games that season. He was released by West Ham in May 2015. After nine years with West Ham, Cole wanted to play for at least three more seasons.
Later Career and Retirement
On 22 October 2015, Cole signed a two-year deal with Celtic in Scotland. He said he joined Celtic because he wanted to win trophies. He made his debut for Celtic in November. On 10 January 2016, he scored his only goal for Celtic in a 3–0 win. In June, Celtic released him after eight months.
On 9 August 2016, Cole signed for United Soccer League club Sacramento Republic. After four games, he left the club. On 30 March 2017, Cole signed for Indonesian club Persib Bandung. He reunited with his former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien there. Cole played five games without scoring. In August, Persib ended his contract. Cole had a trial with AFC Wimbledon in January 2018. He scored in his first game for their development squad. However, he was not offered a contract. Carlton Cole officially announced his retirement on 29 March 2018.
Carlton Cole's International Appearances
Cole played for England at different youth levels. He played five games for the under-19 team. He also played two games for the under-20 team. For the under-21 team, he played 19 games and scored six goals.
He made his debut for the England national team on 11 February 2009. This was in a friendly match against Spain. He came on as a substitute and almost scored. He played seven games for England, all as a substitute. This is a national record as of June 2021.
