Carme is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Anoia region of Catalonia, Spain. It sits in a beautiful valley, surrounded by mountains like the Orpinell range (751 meters high) and the Collbàs range (544 meters high). The village itself is nestled at the bottom of this valley, surrounded by green forests.
Carme is about 10 kilometers away from Igualada, which is the main city of the Anoia region. Other nearby towns include La Pobla de Claramunt and Capellades, both about 5 kilometers away. Around 800 people live in Carme, but this number can grow a bit during holidays when visitors arrive.

Carme's Past
People believe Carme was first settled at the end of the Middle Ages. However, the first official records about the town are from the late 1600s.
Castles and Borders
During the 10th and 11th centuries, a long time ago, parts of Catalonia were controlled by Arab forces. To keep an eye on their movements towards Europe, many castles and forts were built across central Catalonia. These were known as "border castles." They formed a line that helped people see far and defend the land quickly.
The Anoia region, where Carme is located, still has many of these old castles. They help us imagine what life was like back then. One of the best-preserved castles is La Pobla de Claramunt, which is only five kilometers from Carme.
Growth and New Church
In the early 1700s, Carme started to grow a lot. More people moved there, and the town's economy became stronger. During this time, a new church was built. This church is still used today for religious events and local festivals.
Carme's Weather
Carme's weather is special because of where it is located in the valley.
Seasons in Carme
Summers in Carme are usually hot, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 40 degrees Celsius. Winters can be very cold. Most of the rain falls in autumn, but spring also gets a good amount of rain. Sometimes it snows in winter, even though the valley isn't very high up. This means Carme can get more snow than other nearby towns.
A Special Microclimate
Because Carme is in a valley, it has a unique mix of plants and minerals. The valley's location creates a "microclimate," which is like a tiny weather system different from the surrounding areas. This means you can find different types of plants here, like those that grow by rivers, in Mediterranean areas, or in dry places.
This special climate is perfect for many kinds of birds. A few years ago, experts studied the area and found that over 50 different types of birds live in the Carme valley, and sometimes even up to 85! Some of these birds include the Executioner, the Shrike, the Cornell black, and the swallow.
