History of Carmel
Early Days and Railways
Before 1949, Carmel was a simple stop along the Upper Darling Range Railway. This railway helped transport goods and people. The stopping point was first called Green's Landing. It was named after Levi Green, a businessman from Perth. He moved to this area in 1844.
How Carmel Got Its Name
In 1915, the name of the area changed to Carmel. This name comes from the Hebrew language. It means "park" or "garden of God." This new name reflected the natural beauty of the area.
