Pickering Brook is a small area, also called a suburb, located near the city of Perth in Western Australia. It's part of the City of Kalamunda. This area is well-known for its many family-run fruit farms, called orchards.

All About Pickering Brook

Its Name and History

Pickering Brook gets its name from a nearby stream, also called Pickering Brook. This stream was named after an early settler, Captain Edward Picking. Sometimes his name was written as Pickering.

Before 1949, Pickering Brook was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. This means trains would stop there to pick up or drop off people and goods. The suburb of Pickering Brook was officially created on January 12, 1973. A small part of it used to be known as Carilla.

What is Pickering Brook Like?

Just like other nearby areas such as Karragullen, Pickering Brook is mostly made up of orchards. Orchards are farms where people grow fruit trees, like apples, pears, or cherries. Many of these farms are run by families.

Important Events

In December 2001, Pickering Brook faced a big challenge. A large bushfire threatened the suburb. Bushfires are wild fires that spread quickly through natural areas.

In June 2008, a special natural area near Pickering Brook got a new name. It used to be called Pickering Brook National Park. Now, it is known as Korung National Park. National Parks are protected areas of land, often with beautiful scenery and wildlife.
