Carmen Electra (born Tara Leigh Patrick on April 20, 1972) is an American actress, model, singer, and media personality. Her career began when she moved to Minneapolis and met the famous musician Prince. He produced her first music album, Carmen Electra, which was released in 1993.

In 1996, Electra became a popular model. She then moved to Los Angeles to focus on acting. Her big break came when she played Lani McKenzie in the action TV series Baywatch from 1997 to 1998. She also hosted the MTV dating show Singled Out and appeared in her first movie, American Vampire, in 1997.

Electra is well-known for starring in comedy movies that make fun of other films. These are called parody films. Some of her famous parody movies include Scary Movie (2000), Date Movie (2006), Epic Movie (2007), and Meet the Spartans (2008). She has also acted in other films like Starsky & Hutch (2004) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005).

Early life

Carmen Electra was born Tara Leigh Patrick in Sharonville, Ohio, a suburb of the city of Cincinnati. Her father, Harry Patrick, was a guitarist, and her mother, Patricia, was a singer.

From a young age, Electra loved to dance. She studied dance until she was nine years old. Then, she attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), a special arts school in Cincinnati. A famous singer, Nick Lachey, also went to this school, and they once performed in the play Peter Pan together.

Electra later transferred to Princeton High School and graduated in 1990. She also attended the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Cincinnati.

Electra was very close to her family. She said her mother was her "rock" and that her older sister, Debbie, was like a second mother to her.

Career

Music and Modeling

Electra's career started in 1990 when she worked as a dancer at the Kings Island amusement park in Mason, Ohio. The next year, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and met the musician Prince. He helped her sign a record deal with his company, Paisley Park Records.

In 1993, she released her first and only album, called Carmen Electra. It was during this time that she started using the name Carmen Electra professionally. In 1996, she became a very famous model, which helped her become well-known across the country.

Acting and Television

After gaining fame as a model, Electra moved to Los Angeles. In 1997, she got her breakthrough role as Lani McKenzie on the popular TV show Baywatch. This role made her a star. That same year, she also began hosting the MTV show Singled Out.

Electra is famous for her roles in comedy movies that poke fun at horror films and other blockbusters. In 2000, she starred in Scary Movie. She later appeared in other similar films like Date Movie (2006), Scary Movie 4 (2006), Epic Movie (2007), and Meet the Spartans (2008).

She also acted in other successful movies. In 2004, she was in the movie version of the TV show Starsky & Hutch. For this role, she won an MTV Movie Award. In 2005, she appeared in the family comedy Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

Besides movies, Electra has appeared on many TV shows. She was a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance in 2011 and on Britain's Got Talent in 2012. She has also been a voice actor for animated shows like The Simpsons and Tripping the Rift.

In 1998, Electra went through a very difficult time. Her mother passed away from a brain tumor in August. Just two weeks later, her older sister, Debbie, died of a heart attack.

During this sad period, she was dating basketball star Dennis Rodman. They married in November 1998, but their marriage ended a few months later in 1999. Electra later said that she got married to cope with the sadness of losing her mother and sister.

On November 22, 2003, Electra married Dave Navarro, the guitarist for the rock band Jane's Addiction. Their life together was shown on an MTV reality show called 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. They announced their separation in 2006, and their divorce was finalized in 2007.

In February 2024, a court officially approved Electra's request to change her legal name from Tara Leigh Patrick to Carmen Electra.
