Tara Leigh Patrick (born April 20, 1972), known professionally as Carmen Electra, is an American actress, model, and singer. She is also a well-known media personality.

Carmen Electra started her career as a singer. She moved to Minneapolis and met the famous musician Prince. Prince helped her create her first music album, which was released in 1993. Later, in 1996, Electra began working as a model. She then moved to Los Angeles and became very famous for her role as Lani McKenzie in the TV drama series Baywatch from 1997 to 1998.

In 1997, Electra hosted the MTV dating show Singled Out. She also made her first movie appearance in the comedy horror film American Vampire. In 2004, she was part of an MTV reality TV show called 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. Carmen Electra is also known for her roles in funny parody movies. These include Scary Movie (2000), Scary Movie 4 (2006), Date Movie (2006), Epic Movie (2007), Meet the Spartans (2008), and Disaster Movie (2008). She has also appeared in other films like Good Burger (1997), Get Over It (2001), Starsky & Hutch (2004), and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005).

Electra has also performed as a dancer. She was a special guest with the group The Pussycat Dolls on the TV show VH1 Divas 2004.

Early Life and Education

Tara Leigh Patrick was born on April 20, 1972. Her hometown is Sharonville, Ohio, which is near Cincinnati. Her father, Harry Patrick, was a guitarist and entertainer. Her mother, Patricia, was a singer.

Carmen Electra went to Ann Weigel Elementary School. She also studied dance at the Dance Artists studio until she was nine years old. After that, she joined the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). This was a special arts school in Cincinnati. At SCPA, she was a classmate of Nick Lachey. They even performed together in a play called Peter Pan.

Electra always dreamed of dancing on Broadway. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1990. Before that, she had transferred from SCPA. She also attended and graduated from the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Cincinnati. Carmen Electra has mentioned that she has Cherokee, German, and Irish family roots. She was very close to her family, especially her mother and older sister.

Carmen Electra started her professional career in 1990. She worked as a dancer at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. She performed in a popular show called "It's Magic." In 1991, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, she met the famous musician Prince.

Soon after meeting Prince, Electra signed a music contract with his company, Paisley Park Records. She released her first and only music album in 1993. It was called Carmen Electra. During her time with Paisley Park Records, she officially started using the name Carmen Electra.

In 1999, Carmen Electra appeared in a music video for the band Bloodhound Gang. She also acted in the film The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human that year.

In 2000, Electra starred in the horror-comedy parody film Scary Movie. She played Drew Decker, a character who made fun of Casey Becker from the movie Scream. The film was very successful. It led to the Scary Movie film series, which became very popular. She later played Holly in Scary Movie 4 (2006). This was the fourth movie in the series. It set a record for the best opening weekend during Easter. Electra also returned as Lani McKenzie in the 2003 TV movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.

In 2004, she appeared in the movie Starsky & Hutch. This film was a remake of a 1970s TV show. It was a big success. For her role, she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss. Electra also appeared as characters in the video games Def Jam: Fight for New York and ESPN NFL 2K5 in 2004.

In 2005, Electra starred in the family comedy film Cheaper by the Dozen 2. Critics did not like the movie much, but it made a good amount of money. Electra's acting in the film was praised by some. Also in 2005, she was in an episode of the TV show House. She played herself as an injured golfer and farmer. That same year, she started voicing the android character "Six" in the animated series Tripping the Rift.

In 2006, she appeared in Date Movie. She sometimes performed with The Pussycat Dolls. She was a special guest with the group on VH1 Divas 2004. They shared the stage with artists like Patti LaBelle and Debbie Harry.

Electra continued to appear in parody films. These included Epic Movie in 2007, and Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie in 2008. She was also in some online video spoofs that promoted Epic Movie. Most of these films were successful.

On July 6, 2011, Electra was a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance Season 8. She judged alongside regular judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, and guest judge Travis Wall. In 2012, Electra joined Britain's Got Talent as a guest judge. She filled in for Amanda Holden during auditions in London.

In August 1998, Carmen Electra's mother passed away from brain cancer. Two weeks later, her older sister, Debbie, also passed away from a heart attack.

Around that time, Electra was dating NBA player Dennis Rodman. They got married in November 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nine days later, Rodman tried to cancel the marriage. Electra later said that she married Rodman because she was going through a very difficult time after losing her mother and sister. She said she was trying to hold on to whatever she had. The couple later agreed to end their marriage in April 1999.

On November 22, 2003, Electra married Dave Navarro. He is the lead guitarist for the rock band Jane's Addiction. Their journey together was shown on an MTV reality TV show called 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. They announced their separation in July 2006, and their divorce was finalized in February 2007.

In April 2008, Electra's representative confirmed she was engaged to Rob Patterson. He is a member of the bands Otep and Filter. They were engaged for several years but did not get married. In 2012, she appeared on the TV dating show The Choice.

In February 2024, a court in Los Angeles officially changed her legal name from Tara Leigh Patrick to Carmen Electra.
