Carol J. Greenhouse (born January 4, 1950) is an American anthropologist. She is known for studying how law, time, and democracy work in different societies. She also looked at how neoliberalism affects people.
Professor Greenhouse used to teach at Princeton University. She was a very important professor there. She also led several big groups for anthropologists and legal scholars. These include the American Ethnological Society and the Law and Society Association. Her work has won many special awards. She is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Carol J. Greenhouse was born on January 4, 1950. She went to Radcliffe College for her first degree. She studied Anthropology there and finished in 1971. Anthropology is the study of human societies and cultures.
While she was in college, she traveled to Mexico. She studied the Indigenous Maya people there. After college, she continued her studies at Harvard University. She earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1976. For her Ph.D., she studied a small Baptist community in the southern United States.

After getting her Ph.D., Carol Greenhouse became a professor. She first taught at Cornell University. She stayed there until 1991. Then, she moved to Indiana University.
In 2001, Professor Greenhouse joined Princeton University. She taught in the Anthropology Department until she retired in 2019. Throughout her career, she wrote many books and articles. Her writings helped people understand more about law and society.

Carol Greenhouse is married to Alfred C. Aman Jr.. He used to be a dean at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Her sister is Linda Greenhouse, a famous journalist.
