About Carol Lee Sanchez
Carol Lee Sanchez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has a rich cultural background, being part Laguna Pueblo (a Native American tribe) and Lebanese-American. She studied Art Administration at San Francisco State University and earned her degree in 1978.

Carol Lee Sanchez has had a busy and interesting career. From 1976 to 1985, she taught at San Francisco State University. Later, she moved to Central Missouri and taught at places like the University of Missouri and State Fair Community College.
Poet and Speaker
As a poet, Carol Lee Sanchez has traveled a lot! She was invited by the Art America Division of the United States Information Agency to speak about Native American culture in Germany and Latvia in 1993. She has also given many Poetry readings across the United States and in several cities in Europe. You might have even seen her reading her poems on the PBS Television network!
She used to be the boss of the California Poets in the Schools program. She also became a Master Poetry Teacher and still helps students learn about poetry today.

She has also taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, Mills College, CSU Northridge, and the University of Missouri. In 1998, she was a special "Writer in Residence" at Stephens College for Women. She also taught mini-courses on American Indian Cultures and Customs at State Fair Community College.

Today, Carol Lee Sanchez continues to write and paint. She lives in a beautiful old farmhouse in Pettis County, Missouri, near Hughesville. She is also a mother to three grown-up children.
Awards and Recognition
Carol Lee Sanchez has been recognized for her amazing work in the arts. She has served on many important art panels and boards, helping to decide on grants and programs for artists. For example, she was a Panelist for the California Arts Council and the Michigan Council on the Arts.
