History of Hughesville
Hughesville was officially started in 1871 by a man named Reece Hughes. He decided to name the new village after his own last name. A post office has been open in Hughesville since 1872, helping people send and receive mail for over a century.
Some important historical places in Hughesville are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are protected because of their special history. These include the Osage Farms Resettlement Properties and the Gen. David Thomson House.
Geography and Location
Hughesville is located in Missouri, about nine miles (14 kilometers) northwest of a larger city called Sedalia. You can find it along Missouri Route H.
The village is quite small. It covers a total area of about 0.30 square kilometers (0.12 square miles). All of this area is land, meaning there are no lakes or large rivers within the village limits.
