Her Time on Doctor Who

In 1963, Carole Ann Ford got the part of Susan Foreman in Doctor Who. She played the granddaughter of the Doctor. She was one of the first three companions to travel with the First Doctor, played by William Hartnell. Susan was the "unearthly child" mentioned in the show's very first episode.

Originally, Susan was meant to have special powers, like being able to read minds. She was also supposed to be able to fly the TARDIS. However, in the show, her character became more ordinary.

Susan left the series in 1964. But Carole Ann Ford came back as Susan for special episodes. She appeared in "The Five Doctors" (1983) for the show's 20th anniversary. She also returned for the 30th-anniversary charity special, Dimensions in Time (1993).

After Doctor Who

After the 1970s, Carole Ann Ford mostly stopped acting for a while due to an illness. She then started teaching voice and presentation skills. She helped politicians, businesspeople, and actors improve their speaking.

Since the 2000s, she has returned to acting in a small way. She has played Susan again in many Doctor Who audio plays by Big Finish Productions. These audio stories let her character reunite with different Doctors, like the Eighth Doctor played by Paul McGann.

In 2013, a TV movie called An Adventure in Space and Time was made. It told the story of how Doctor Who began. Carole Ann Ford was played by actress Claudia Grant in this film. Carole Ann Ford herself had a small role in the movie as a character named Joyce. She also appeared as herself in a comedy special called The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Carole Ann Ford is the last surviving credited cast member from the very first Doctor Who episode, "An Unearthly Child". This makes her a very special part of Doctor Who history.
