The Story of Caroleen
Caroleen is located next to the Second Broad River. It was given its name to honor Caroline, who was the wife of a businessman named Simpson B. Tanner Sr.
However, the Post Office Department, which handles mail, thought the name "Caroline" sounded too much like "Carolina." To avoid confusion, they decided to change it. That's how the name "Caroleen" was chosen instead.
Two other communities nearby, Avondale and Henrietta, were started in 1887. Henrietta was named after Tanner's mother-in-law, Henrietta McRae Spencer. These communities are located just south of Caroleen.
