How Carpenter Got Its Name
The community of Carpenter was named after a nearby body of water called Carpenter Lake. This lake was named to remember an important early settler, Henri Charpentier. He was a French person who came to the area in 1878. Sadly, he drowned in the lake in 1888. His last name, Charpentier, was sometimes spelled "Scharpenter" in old records. "Carpenter" is the English way of saying his name.
