History of Carpenter

How Carpenter Started

The community of Carpenter began in 1907. At first, only 15 people lived there. It was an important stop along the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad line. This railroad used to run from Hereford, Colorado, through other small places like Arcola and Campstool, and then on to Cheyenne. By 1910, the population of Carpenter had grown to 50 people.

Who Was James R. Carpenter?

Carpenter, Wyoming, was named after a man named James R. Carpenter. He was born in 1867 and passed away in 1943. James R. Carpenter was a land developer. This means he helped open up large areas of land for people to settle and build homes.

He was the president and general manager of a company called The Federal Land Company. This company helped make 146,000 acres of land available to settlers in Wyoming. Later in his life, James R. Carpenter also became a judge in Wyoming.
