Carrie Crowley (born May 23, 1964) is an Irish actress and television presenter. She also speaks Irish.

Carrie hosted her own chat show, Limelight. She also co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 with Ronan Keating. Carrie has acted in many TV shows like The Clinic and Fair City. She even played Elisef in the TV series Vikings. In 2022, she was nominated for an award for her role in the movie An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl).

Early Life and Education

Carrie Crowley was born and grew up in Waterford, a city in the south-east of Ireland. Her mother, Nodhlaig, was a teacher. Her father, Con, was a garda, which is an Irish police officer. Carrie also has one sister named Bríd.

Carrie first performed on stage in a local play called Oliver!. She later went to St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra. There, she earned a degree in education. Before becoming famous on TV, Carrie worked as a primary school teacher.

Career in Broadcasting

Carrie started her career in radio in her hometown of Waterford. She worked at WLR FM from 1991 to 1996. She hosted different shows there.

After that, she moved to RTÉ, which is Ireland's national broadcaster. She began by working on children's shows. She co-hosted the Irish language version of Echo Island with comedian Dara Ó Briain. She also starred as the character Liodain in the pre-school series The Morbegs.

Hosting Eurovision

In 1997, Carrie was chosen to present the Eurovision Song Contest 1997. Ireland was hosting the event that year. She presented it alongside singer Ronan Keating. The next year, in 1998, she appeared before the Eurovision show. She spoke to Terry Wogan and Ulrika Jonsson, wishing them good luck as they started presenting.

Life as a Star

After Eurovision, Carrie became one of the biggest stars on RTÉ in the 1990s. She was very busy, working on several shows at once. She hosted Potluck every weekday afternoon. On Thursday nights, she had her own health show called Pulse. On Sundays, she hosted her own main chat show, Limelight, which ran for two seasons.

Later, Carrie decided to leave television presenting. She went back to radio. She co-hosted a show called Fandango with Ray D'Arcy on RTÉ Radio 1. She was on RTÉ Radio 1 every Sunday night. Carrie has since said that her time at RTÉ was like being an "accidental tourist."

Acting Career Highlights

In 2008, Carrie appeared in the TG4 drama The Running Mate. She also appeared in TV3's School Run in 2009. That same year, she was in The Clinic.

She has starred in short films in the Irish language, like An Gaeilgeoir Nocht. She also appeared in an episode of the Irish language TV series An Crisis. Carrie was in the drama series Anseo for TG4.

From October 2014 to 2018, she was a cast member in the popular Irish soap opera Fair City.

Award-Nominated Work

In 2022, Carrie appeared in An Cailín Ciúin. This was an Irish-language drama film. The movie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. Carrie herself was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award from the IFTA for her role in the film.

Personal Life

In 2004, Carrie Crowley married her long-time partner, Ross Kelly. They had met in 1996.
