Caroline Louise Snodgress (October 27, 1945 – April 1, 2004) was an American actress. She was well-known for her role in the 1970 film Diary of a Mad Housewife. For this movie, she was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award. She also won two Golden Globes for her performance.

Early Life and Acting Career
Carrie Snodgress was born in Barrington, Illinois. She went to Maine Township High School East and then Northern Illinois University. Later, she left college to become an actress. She studied acting at the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago.
Carrie started her career with small roles on TV shows. Her first movie appearance was in Easy Rider in 1969. In 1970, she had a credited role in Rabbit, Run. Her next film, Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), made her famous. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won two Golden Globes. One was for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, and the other was for New Star of the Year.
Taking a Break and Returning to Film
After her success, Carrie Snodgress took a break from acting. She wanted to live with musician Neil Young and take care of their son, Zeke. Zeke was born with a condition called cerebral palsy. Carrie returned to acting in 1978 in the movie The Fury.
Carrie was considered for the role of Adrian in the famous movie Rocky. However, she turned down the part because of the money offered. Later, the director of Rocky, John G. Avildsen, cast her in two of his other films: A Night in Heaven and 8 Seconds.
Neil Young's song "A Man Needs a Maid" was inspired by Carrie. Other songs like "Heart of Gold" and "Harvest" from his album Harvest were also inspired by their relationship. Carrie and Neil Young separated in 1974.
Stage and Later Film Roles
Carrie Snodgress also performed on stage. Her first off-Broadway play was A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking in 1981. She also acted in many plays at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, such as All the Way Home and Caesar and Cleopatra.
She continued to appear in many films throughout her career. Some of her other movies include Murphy's Law, Pale Rider, and Blue Sky. She also worked a lot in television, appearing in various TV shows and movies.
Death
Carrie Snodgress passed away on April 1, 2004, in Los Angeles. She was 58 years old. She had been waiting for a liver transplant and died from heart failure.
