Early Life and Nickname
Scott Thompson was born in Rockledge, Florida, and grew up in the nearby town of Cocoa. His father was an engineer who worked for NASA. In high school, Scott played the drums in the school's marching band.
He got his famous nickname, "Carrot Top," from his swimming coach because of his red hair. This nickname stuck and became a key part of his identity as a comedian. After graduating high school in 1983, he went to Florida Atlantic University. It was during his first year of college that he tried stand-up comedy for the first time.
Career in Comedy and Television
Carrot Top's career took off in the early 1990s. He appeared on TV shows like Comic Strip Live and Star Search, which helped him become famous. His unique style of comedy, using props he pulls from large trunks on stage, made him stand out.
Live Comedy Shows
Since 2005, Carrot Top has been a major performer in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has a long-running comedy show at the Luxor Hotel. His routine is fast-paced and visual. He pulls out a prop, tells a quick joke about it, and then tosses it aside, moving on to the next one. This makes his shows very energetic and full of surprises.
Television and Film Appearances
Carrot Top has been a guest on many TV shows. From 1995 to 1999, he was the announcer for the Cartoon Network. He also hosted a morning show on the channel called Carrot Top's AM Mayhem.

Carrot Top has also been a part of comedy "roasts," where comedians make fun of a celebrity guest in a good-natured way. He was a guest judge on the competition show Last Comic Standing and has appeared on many talk shows, including The Jay Leno Show.
More recently, he has appeared on popular internet shows. He was a guest on Good Mythical Morning with Rhett & Link and was interviewed for The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
