Early Life and Education
Caryn Ward was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother is a lawyer and her father is a doctor. Growing up, she was interested in both academics and the arts.
She went to Howard University and earned a degree in psychology. To follow her passion for dance, she also trained at the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. This training helped her perform with famous artists like singer Janet Jackson.
Acting Career
Getting Started as a Young Actress
Caryn began her acting career as a child in the 1980s. From 1985 to 1986, she had a role in the popular musical TV show Fame. She also appeared in other well-known shows like Webster and Family Matters.
From 1990 to 1991, she was one of the main stars in the CBS comedy show You Take the Kids, alongside actress Nell Carter. After this show, Caryn took a break from acting for about ten years.
Return to Television and Film
In the 2000s, Caryn returned to acting. She appeared in episodes of hit shows like Friends, The Shield, and Lincoln Heights.
In 2004, she acted in her first movie, a thriller called Motives. She starred with Vivica A. Fox and Shemar Moore. She later appeared in other films like Boss'n Up (2005) and Traci Townsend (2006).
From 2006 to 2015, she played the recurring character Erica Harrison in the comedy series The Game.
Producing and Recent Work
Caryn has also worked as a producer, helping to create and fund movies. She starred in and produced the films The Affair (2014) and Zodiac Sign (2015).
