Casarilh is a small, charming village located in the beautiful Val d'Aran region of Spain. It's part of the larger municipality called Vielha e Mijaran. This peaceful village sits high up in the mountains, offering stunning views and a glimpse into traditional life.
Exploring Casarilh
Casarilh is nestled on the left side of the Garonne river, which flows through the valley. It's located at the eastern edge of its municipality, about 1,050 meters (around 3,445 feet) above sea level. In 2020, about 84 people lived here, making it a cozy community.
The village has a simple layout, with the old "Camin Reiau" (which means "Royal Road") running through it. This historic road is now parallel to the modern C-142 road, which goes around the village.
Sant Martí Church
At the heart of Casarilh stands the Romanesque parish church of Sant Martí. This old church has a strong, solid bell tower that reaches towards the sky. Inside, you can find a very old tombstone from the late Roman times, adding to the village's rich history.
