In 1873, people discovered iron ore in the ground near Cascade. Iron ore is a rock from which we can get iron metal. This discovery was a big deal for the region.
Cascade Junction
Because of the mining, a special train station was built. This station was where two different railway lines met. These lines were the Chicago and Northwestern Railway and the Marquette, Houghton and Ontonagon Railroad. This meeting point was called Cascade Junction. The station helped transport the iron ore from the mines.
