Early Life and Education
Casey Wilson was born and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. She finished high school in 1998. She then studied theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She also attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. In 2002, she graduated and received an award for "Excellence in Acting."
Casey has Irish and Italian family roots. She was raised Baptist. Her parents worked in politics. Her mother was a Democrat, and her father was a Republican. Casey says their different political views helped shape her sense of humor. She also has a younger brother named Fletcher.
Her mother, Kathy Higdon Wilson, was a strong supporter of women's rights. She led the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) in the 1980s. Later, she worked in early childhood education. Kathy died in 2005. Casey and her family continue to run the Kathy Wilson Foundation. This charity helps children with disabilities.
Casey's love for performing started when she was young. She remembers seeing the musical Cats in New York City. This inspired her to create her own plays. When she was nine, her father built her a stage in their backyard. She put on plays there with other kids. As a teenager, she took singing and acting lessons. She was very involved in her high school's theater program. She even played the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music.
At first, Casey wanted to be a serious dramatic actress. But an acting teacher suggested she try comedy. After graduating from NYU in 2002, Casey and her friend June Diane Raphael started studying improv comedy. They joined the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City. They performed their own two-woman sketch show there for several years. This show helped them become writers. They were hired to write the movie Bride Wars.
Casey has said that comedians like Catherine O'Hara and Lucille Ball have influenced her work.
