In doubles, his highest ranking was world No. 133. He achieved this after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships with his partner André Göransson. Casper Ruud's Tennis Journey

Starting Out: Junior Tennis

Casper Ruud began his journey in junior tennis, playing in big tournaments for young players. In 2015, he reached the third round of the French Open boys' singles and the US Open boys' singles. He also made it to the semifinals in doubles at Wimbledon with his partner Miomir Kecmanović.

Becoming World No. 1 Junior and Turning Pro (2016)

On 4 January 2016, Casper became the world No. 1 junior player. He was the first Norwegian to ever do this! That year, he aimed to play in professional tournaments to improve his ATP rankings. He won his first professional tournament, a Futures event, in Spain. He also won another Futures title in Finland.

In September, Casper made his debut at an ATP Challenger tournament, the Copa Sevilla. He won the tournament, becoming one of the youngest players to ever win a Challenger event on their first try. This win helped him get a special entry into his first ATP World Tour 250 series tournament, the 2016 Chengdu Open. He finished 2016 ranked No. 225 in the world.

Climbing the Ranks (2017)

In 2017, Casper continued to impress. He got a special entry into the 2017 Rio Open, an ATP 500 event. There, he made it to his first ATP-level semifinal. This made him the youngest player to reach an ATP 500 semifinal in years. After this, his ranking went up to No. 133. He also played in his first ATP Masters 1000 tournament, the 2017 Miami Open.

First Grand Slam Appearances (2018)

In 2018, Casper played in his first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. He was the first Norwegian man in 17 years to qualify for a Grand Slam main draw. He won his first match there before losing in the second round. He also qualified for the French Open and the US Open that year. At the 2018 Swedish Open, he had a big win against former world No. 3, David Ferrer. He ended 2018 ranked No. 112.

Breaking into the Top 100 (2019)

The 2019 season was a big one for Casper. He reached the semifinals of the Brasil Open. This result helped him enter the top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time. He was the first Norwegian to do this since his father, Christian Ruud, in 1994.

In April, Casper reached his first ever ATP Tour final at the U.S. Clay Court Championships. He lost in the final, but he matched his father's achievement of reaching an ATP Tour final. At the Italian Open, he won his first match in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament. He also reached the third round of the French Open, where he played against tennis legend Roger Federer.

Winning His First ATP Title (2020)

In 2020, Casper made history for Norway. At the Argentina Open, he won his first ever ATP Tour title! This made him the first Norwegian tennis player to win an ATP Tour event. He also surpassed his father's highest ranking, becoming the highest-ranked Norwegian player in ATP history at No. 34.

He reached another final in Chile that month. At the US Open and French Open, he reached the third round. He also made it to the semifinals of the Italian Open, beating a top 10 player along the way. This pushed his ranking to a new high of No. 25.

Five Titles and Top 10 Debut (2021)

The year 2021 was amazing for Casper. At the Australian Open, he reached the fourth round of a major for the first time, matching his father's best result there. At the Geneva Open, he won his second ATP title. Then, in July, he won three tournaments in a row: the Swedish Open, the Swiss Open, and the Kitzbühel Open. This was a huge achievement, making him the first player since 2011 to win three titles in three weeks!

On 13 September 2021, Casper reached the world No. 10 ranking. He was the first Norwegian player to ever be in the top 10. He also won his first hardcourt tournament at the San Diego Open. At the end of the year, he qualified for the ATP Finals, where only the top 8 players compete. He reached the semifinals there. He finished 2021 as world No. 8.

At the French Open, Casper made history by reaching his first ever Grand Slam final! He beat players like Hubert Hurkacz and Marin Čilić to get there. Although he lost to the legendary Rafael Nadal in the final, his performance moved him to a new career-high ranking of world No. 6, and then No. 5.

He won the Swiss Open Gstaad for the second year in a row. At the US Open, Casper had another incredible run, reaching his second Grand Slam final! He beat tough opponents like Matteo Berrettini and Karen Khachanov. He lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final, but this amazing result pushed his ranking to world No. 2 on 12 September 2022. At the French Open, Casper reached the quarterfinals for the second year in a row. He then won his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev to reach the French Open final for the second time! How Casper Ruud Plays Tennis

Casper Ruud is known as a clay-court specialist. This means he plays his best tennis and has won most of his titles on clay courts. He is an offensive baseliner, which means he likes to hit powerful shots from the back of the court.

His best shot is his forehand, which he hits with a lot of topspin. This makes the ball bounce high and fast, making it hard for opponents to return. His backhand is also very consistent. Casper has a strong serve that can reach up to 193 km/h (120 mph). He often uses his serve to get an advantage right away in a point.

Casper is also praised for his calm and respectful behavior on the court. He rarely shows anger or frustration during matches.

Casper Ruud's Life Off the Court

Casper is the son of Christian Ruud, who was also a professional tennis player. His mother is Lele Ruud, and he has two sisters, Caroline and Charlotte. Casper enjoys playing golf, just like his father. He grew up in Snarøya, Norway, and his tennis hero was Rafael Nadal.

Casper has been dating Maria Galligani since 2018, and they announced their engagement in November 2024. They live in Oslo. Maria studied psychology and has a master's degree. They also have a dog named Bajas.

Casper on TV and in Movies

Casper has appeared in a few TV shows and documentaries about tennis. He was in Rafa Nadal Academy, a docuseries on Amazon Prime Video. He also appeared in Break Point on Netflix, which shows the lives of top tennis players. In 2024, he was in the documentary film Federer: Twelve Final Days.
