The 2023 French Open is a big tennis tournament called a Grand Slam. It takes place outdoors on special clay courts. The tournament is held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. It runs from May 28 to June 11, 2023.
Players compete in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. There are also special tournaments for junior players and those using wheelchairs. This is the 127th time the French Open has been held. It is the second Grand Slam event of 2023.
Rafael Nadal was the men's singles champion before this tournament. However, he could not play this year because of an injury. This is the first time Nadal has missed the tournament since he started playing in 2005. He has won the French Open 14 times! Iga Świątek is the defending champion in women's singles.

What are Ranking Points?
The French Open is a Grand Slam, so it gives the most points of all tennis tournaments. These points help decide the world rankings for men (ATP) and women (WTA). Higher points mean a higher rank.
For both singles and doubles, women usually get a few more points than men. This is true for most rounds, except the first and last. Points for wheelchair events are managed by the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour. Grand Slams also give the most points in these events.

How Much Prize Money Do Players Win?
The total prize money for the 2023 French Open is €49,600,000. This is 12.3% more than in 2022. The organizers wanted to share the money more fairly among all players. They greatly increased the prize money for players who lost in the first round. They also increased money for qualifying rounds and wheelchair events.
