History of Castalia
Early Native American Settlement
Long ago, around 1738, the Wyandot Native American tribe had a village where Castalia is now. A leader named Nicholas Orontony guided them. They had some disagreements with the French and traded more with people from Pennsylvania. Because of this, the Wyandot people decided to burn their village and move. In 1748, they moved to the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, which is now the city of Cleveland.
Founding and Naming of the Village
The village of Castalia was officially started in 1836. It was named after Castalia, a special figure from ancient Greek stories.
